Divorce Settlements. When is £3.3 million not enough?

An ex-beauty queen from Russia has recently been awarded a £3.3 million divorce settlement, as well as a further £370,000 a year. Sounds like a good deal, but she is asking for more as this is, apparently, not enough to live on. Or at least not enough to give her a reasonable standard of living.

The initial ruling was made earlier last year when Ekaterina Fields was granted a divorce from American lawyer Richard Fields. They had been married for almost 10 years.

One of her concerns is Mr Fields’ age. He is 60, and this worries Ms Fields because she feels that her ex-husband might die or lose his capacity to earn before she is able to put £1 million into savings, which would enable her to enjoy her lavish lifestyle into her old age. She wants to be able to continue enjoying £75,000 a year holidays and £60,000 worth of beauty treatments. Mr Justice Holman decided that a lump sum of £3.3 million was enough to enable Ekaterina and her children to continue to live in Kensington and Chelsea.

Ekaterina claims that Richard Fields can afford twice the amount she has been awarded. Especially considering that, as a top lawyer, he is often awarded huge bonuses.
